Yeah, cause when I find a loved one collapsed and unconscious/dead ... I always go back into the bedroom to check the clock. Also, now that it's years later, I'm sure I'll have a clear recollection of whether the hand on the watch I wasn't wearing was pointed at 4 or 5.
One of the mos infuriating things about this is that the only possible "positive" outcome of such a fishing expedition would be to blame Michael Schiavo for his wife's death. Hasn't he gone through enough? Apparently not. This coupled with her parents' refusal to accept the facts of the autopsy just eforces my belief that the radical right has no pressing obligation or desire to allign themselves with truth, facts, or reality. By the way, in case you thought none of this was political (HAH) the Schindlers are speaking at a pro-life convention this weekend. Charming. *fume*
My hope is that this chain of events opens some moderates' eyes to just how radical these folks have become. I'm really curious to see what this does to Jeb's numbers, as America wasn't pleased with Congress' interference in this case when Terry Schiavo was "alive", and Republicans in Jeb's state seem willing to call him on this insanity.
And I lost sympathy for the Schindlers when they started hanging out with Randall Terry. He started out as a local nutjob where I was growing up, and I've got no reason to support anyone who'll truck with him. (N.B. This is not to say the Schindlers haven't done lots of other pathetic shit; but hanging out with Randy was the first thing I heard about when I started following the case that made it clear to me that they weren't on the sides of any angels I'd like to hang out with.)
I was kind of glad for their association with Randall Terry, in that it made it so clear that they were toally whacked. When I heard that Terry Schiavo was blind, I yelled at the radio in disbelief. How could the Schindler's be so wrong? What are they so desperately clinging to? Why is it so important for them to believe - and have the world believe - that their daughter could have lived a fulfilling life and was killed unjustly? The esteemed Dr. Frist, by the way, who is so skilled as to have diagnosed Schiavo via videotape (while his colleages questioned her husmand's manhood, for fuck's sake), has been too busy to review the autopsy's findings, much less comment. It's total madness. At what point will it blow up in Republicans' faces? I can only hope (against hope, knowing the collective short term memory of my dear fellow Americans) that Jeb's foolishness will hamper any presidential hopes he has.
It is events like this that make me: A) Glad we have the word "scum" to describe these people. Say it. Roll it out, with the venom you feel. Doesn't it feel terrific? Doesn't it so perfectly give vent to that bile? B) Sad that "scum" has fallen out of use and lost its well-deserved bite.

Indeed. I remember the time I was involved in such a game with much fondness. That particular moment ranks right up there with, "Lady, they don't pay us to know things," as the standout parts in my memory.
